VETERAN INFORMATION PROFILE
Military-To-Civilian Transition
The Veteran Information Profile (VIP) is an assessment tool used by counselors,
evaluators and mental health professionals working with post-deployment
veterans. VIP test results are used to help determine individualized levels of
counseling, treatment and other services for veterans returning to civilian
life. VIP test users will find that the VIP report contains valuable insight
into a veteran's particular reintegration-related problems and also classifies
problems (if present) in terms of their severity. Problem severity
classification is critical to providing the most appropriate and effective
levels of intervention and care. The VIP can facilitate giving our returning
veterans the help and care they deserve.
For nearly a decade, US military operations have been characterized by a
significant increase in the number of troops deployed overseas. Veterans often
return home and discover that the military-to-civilian transition process is
far more difficult than anticipated. Frequently, civilian reintegration is
further hindered by co-occurring emotional and mental health disorders like
depression, suicide risk, PTSD, substance abuse and impaired self-esteem.
Post-deployment screening allows for problem identification and problem
severity determination, which are critical when providing veterans with the
intervention, treatment and support services needed.
